Stephen Beatty - Chair
Stephen joined the Board of Directors in June 2001. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of KPMG's Public/Private Advisory practice for North America. Stephen is the third generation Beatty family member to serve on the Board.

Caroline Pinto – Vice Chair
Caroline joined the Board of Directors in February 2008. A lawyer by training, Caroline is a founding Principal of Counsel Public Affairs Inc. She is responsible for providing strategic government relations counsel to a number of major clients. Prior to Counsel Public Affairs, Caroline was Vice President and Director in the Private/Public Partnership Group at Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Stephen Wall - Treasurer
Stephen is an audit partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Financial Institutions and Public Company Practice section of the firm. Stephen has been involved in numerous initial public offerings in both Canada and the US, involving companies such as GO Transit, Harris Steel Group, Sceptre Group of Funds and Drexel Burnham Lambert.

Malcolm Moffat - Secretary
Malcolm was appointed as a Director in March 2003 following his appointment as President and CEO of St. John's Rehab Hospital. Before joining St. John's Rehab, Malcolm was the Vice-President and Chief Planning Officer of St. Michael's Hospital.

Directors

Joyce Bailey
Joyce has been a member of the Board since 2002 and served as Board Chair from June 2008 to June 2011. She also served as Vice-Chair of St. John’s Rehab Foundation from 2003-2005. Joyce was a Director on the COTA Board of Directors for nine years and was Chair from 2002-2004. She was also a member of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation Board serving as Chair from 2003-2004. Her career included 30 years at The Wellesley Hospital with the last 7 years as President and CEO.

Peter Barbetta
Peter is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Cadillac Fairview Corporation Ltd. In his previous volunteer governance work, Peter served as a director of the Board of St. Bernard’s Hospital, an organization which St. John’s assumed responsibility for in 2000 during hospital restructuring.

Katherine Berg
Dr. Berg joined the Hospital Board in December 2006. She is currently the Chair and associate professor at the University of Toronto, Department of Physical Therapy. She is a health services researcher with interests in quality indicators, outcome measurement and prevention of disability and falls. She developed and validated a Balance Scale which is widely used in Rehabilitation.

Thomas D. Curzon
Thomas, President of TDC Communications Inc., has been a member of the board since 2002. He is the retired Group Vice-President of Corporate Communications for CTVglobemedia, Canada’s premier multimedia company and its divisions including CTV Inc. and the Globe and Mail.

Dennis Darby
Dennis joined the Hospital’s Board in February 2008. Dennis is currently the Chief Executive Officer at the Ontario Pharmacists’ Association. Prior to taking on his role at the OPA, Dennis spent over 15 years at Procter & Gamble, the last role being the Director, North American External Relations to which he was appointed to in 2006.

Sr. Elizabeth Ann Eckert
Sr. Elizabeth is the Reverend Mother of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine. She joined the Sisterhood in 1987 and has been on the Mother’s Council and has served on the Sisterhood’s Board of Directors.

Joanne Flint
Joanne is a former TTC Commissioner, North York and Toronto City Councillor and member of the Ontario Municipal Board. She has served as Vice Chair of the Metropolitan Toronto District Health Council and on several boards including The Donwood Institute, the George Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, the AGO, the Canadian Film Centre and the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Rhonda Galbraith
Rhonda joined the Board of Directors in January 2011 as an Ex-Officio Director. She is currently the Vice President of Patient Programs and Chief Nursing Officer at the Hospital. Prior to St John's, Rhonda was in leadership roles at St. Michael’s Hospital. She also serves as Chair of the North East Stroke Network for Ontario and has been on the Board of Directors of Bellwood's Community Living since 2009.

Sr. Sue Elwyn
Sr. Sue is the Appointee of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine. She joined the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine in 2000 and has been on the Mother’s Council and served on the Sisterhood’s Board of Directors.

James Kennedy
James joined the Board of Directors in June 2003. Jim was a partner at the law firm of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt prior to his retirement in 2000. He is a past president of The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law, chair of the Independent Review Committee of the Saxon Funds, a director of Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Canada and a director and officer of several charitable organizations and foundations.

Patricia McGee
Patricia joined the Board of Directors in December 2006. She is a retired Director of the then Teaching Hospitals Branch and subsequently the Central Ontario Branch each within Institutional Health Division at the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care. Since her retirement, Pat has been actively volunteering on several Boards.

Dr. Peeter Poldre
Dr. Poldre was appointed Chief Medical Officer of St. John’s Rehab in 2011. He also serves as Vice President for Medical Professional Practice at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and has had a career long interest in health professions education, earning a Doctorate in Education in 1998.

Hilary Short
Hilary was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2008 following her retirement as President and CEO at the Ontario Hospital Association. Having first joined the OHA in 1973, Hilary was appointed to the role of CEO in 2003. Under Hilary’s leadership, the OHA’s educational programs achieved record levels of attendance and several new product lines were launched particularly in the field of Governance and Patient Safety. Hilary is known as a strong advocate on behalf of hospitals.

David Taylor
David was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2008. David spent 13 years in retail with Simpson’s Limited. He led the operational and financial turnaround of the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thompson Hall. He also led the design, redevelopment and operation of the Hockey Hall of Fame as its President.

David Tom
David was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2007. He is currently the Vice President, Services at Cisco Systems Ltd. David has over 20 years of experience in the information technology and services industries. Prior to joining Cisco Systems, David was the Managing Director of Inthink Group Inc. responsible for the creation, development and delivery of strategy, planning and interim management services.

Dr. John Patcai
Dr. Patcai was elected President of the Medical Staff Association for the 2011/12 year. Dr. Patcai has been on the medical staff of St. John’s Rehab for several years and has served as former Chief of Staff and Medical Director of the Hospital.

Gary Williams
Gary was elected to the Board of Directors in June 2009. He is the Founder and President of Timber Systems Limited. Gary is a Professional Engineer with many years experience with various hospital and other public building construction projects both locally and internationally. Gary also serves on several committees on structural and wood design standards in Canada.

Honorary Directors

Arnold H. Agnew
Arnold served on the Board of Directors from 1967 and became an Honorary Director in 2001. Prior to his retirement, he had more than 25 years experience in public affairs consulting, crisis management, high risk communications, corporate and public affairs, annual reports, speeches and the media. During a 25-year newspaper career, he held senior positions including Vice-President and Editor-in-Chief of the Toronto Telegram. His father, Dr. G. Harvey Agnew was the hospital’s first Secretary of the Medical Staff and a director from 1939-1971.

Thomas L. Brown
Soon after starting his medical practice in North York in 1954, Dr. Brown began referring his patients to the Hospital for rehabilitation care. Dr. Brown joined the Hospital’s medical staff in 1974, serving as President of the Medical staff in the late 1970s. He joined the Board of Directors in 1980.

T. Richard Davies
Dick was appointed as a Director in 1982 and became an Honorary Director in 2005. He served as Chair of the Board from 1991-1996 and as Vice Chair in 1989. In 1994, he retired from a successful 46 year career with the Toronto Dominion Bank. He is actively involved as a Board member for many non-profit community organizations including the Canadian Automobile Association. Dick also served as Chair of the Hospital Foundation from 1997-2000.

Sally M. Horsfall
Sally served as Chair of the Board of Directors from 2000-2002 and retired from the Board in June 2006. She has broad experience managing organizations at the Board, Committee and Executive Director level. She was also Chair of the Breakfast for Learning Canadian Living Foundation. She chaired The Advisory Board on the Voluntary Sector for the Premier’s Office in Ontario, was a Director of Green Shield Canada, and has served as the Public Representative on the Appeals Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Ontario. Sally was Executive Director of the Trillium Foundation from its inception in 1982 and directed its growth until 1993.

David Truman
David joined the Hospital’s Volunteer Association in March 2010 and was appointed President of the Volunteer Association in April 2011. The President of the Hospital Volunteer Association also serves as a member of the Hospital Corporation.
