Award of Excellence

The annual Award of Excellence is the hospital’s highest honour for remarkable employee achievement and commitment to our values.

Recipients are nominated by their colleagues for going above and beyond to achieving great things. They exemplify our drive to rebuild people’s lives and be at the forefront of specialized rehabilitation care.

2008-09 recipients

Achievement: Organizing the 2008 Ontario Association for Amputee Care Conference
Recipient: Shirlene Campbell

The conference brought amputee rehab experts from across Ontario and Canada to St. John's Rehab Hospital to learn and share knowledge about leading patient care practices. Working with an outside partner, Shirlene's initiative to organize and implement the conference helped expand and strengthen relationships, raised the hospital's profile and helped move rehabilitation forward to benefit amputee patients.

Achievement: Leading the Physiotherapy Outcomes Measures Committee
Recipient: Beth Mahy

The committee developed a patient goal sheet, a physiotherapy assessment form and guidelines, a patient exercise form and tracking sheet, a chart audit form and an integrated inpatient assessment form. By developing these important documents, the group helped guide and standardize physiotherapy treatment. Their efforts will help our patients get the maximum benefit from
therapy and ensure that they are satisfied with their care.

Achievement: Organizing the Referring to Rehab Open House
Recipients: Woody Baileyegn, Ann Brant, Gina Lam, Alison Lightbound, Leslie Mitchell, Linda Nasturzio, Katherine Nazimek, Mary Peluso, Krista Richards, Marcus Staviss, Liz Williamson

In March 2009, we welcomed more than 100 of our healthcare partners to a new open house event. The event allowed referring partners to meet our staff and get a first-hand look at the inner workings of St. John’s Rehab Hospital. This multi-functional group of support staff, clinical staff and managers built a new team, working together to develop the event. Their efforts helped our referring partners answer their patients' questions about rehab options. This helped encourage referrals to the hospital, while improving new patients' comfort and satisfaction.
