Liz - Trauma, Burns & Complex Care Team
Team Coordinator, Registered Nurse
Joined team: 1994
Started current role:
2005
Prior to this position, Liz (third from left) worked as part of the St. John’s Rehab team as a Registered Nurse. "As an RN, I am able to get a sense of the patient as a whole and be involved in all aspects of their care."
In her current role, she works in a 37-bed-unit and coordinates care for trauma, burn, complex care and orthopaedic patients.
Liz reviews admissions applications from partnering facilities. She works with her team to determine if patients are appropriate candidates for our specialized rehabilitation care.
“I see myself as a liaison between the team and our manager,” says Williamson. “I deal with patients, their families and the team. Together, we create a plan of care that meets each patient’s complex needs.”
Why rehabilitation?
“The patient population we work with is very unique. We are the only burn rehab facility in Ontario. We have patients that come from other provinces and the United States because we do what nobody else does in the province and sometimes in the country.”
Also, “because the trauma and burn patients are very complex, the patients often have longer lengths of stay and it is very rewarding to witness their amazing progression.”
The best part
“Our team works really well together,” says Liz. She describes it as an interdisciplinary approach involving a variety of people who are very experienced. “I learn something new every day from the nurses and from the wonderful team whose work and expertise continuously amaze me.”
The work culture here is positive. “People have worked here for a long time. Many have started their careers here and many are ending them here.”
