Ena Stowe

Auxiliary/Volunteer Association member since 2003

I have been an Auxiliary member at St. John’s Rehab Hospital for many years now. I retired from my job as a law clerk and decided it was time to give back to the community. My motto is: “Give back for what you’ve had.” I try to instill this in my own children and grandchildren because I feel it is so important.

What is your role as a volunteer?

I have several roles at the hospital. I am on the executive board for fundraising, I was the chair of the November Noel 2009 and I work in the gift shop. I am a jack of all trades!

What have you learned and enjoyed most about volunteering?

The two main things that I’ve learned from volunteering are to be compassionate and listen. I’m naturally a very inquisitive person and I love interacting and learning about the lives of patients, staff and volunteers. Everyone has a story - hearing theirs is fascinating and I have the pleasure of interacting with them on a daily basis.

St. John’s Rehab has given me the opportunity to learn about many other people and in turn, grow and learn about myself.
