Board of Directors appoints new Chair, Board members
The Board of Directors of St. John's Rehab Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Joyce Bailey as its Chair, effective June 23, 2008.
An accomplished health care executive, Ms. Bailey brings over 30 years of knowledge and experience to her new role. She will work with the Board of Directors and the management team to provide oversight for St. John's Rehab Hospital through new advancements, including the construction of the 49,000 square-foot John C. and Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre for Ambulatory Care. Ms. Bailey's extensive career includes seven years as President and CEO of The Wellesley Hospital, oversight of the Ross Tilley Burn Centre, and oversight of Ontario's first lithotripsy centre - a specialized kidney treatment centre.
Since 2002, Ms. Bailey has served as Director and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors, and has sat on the Board of Directors of St. John's Rehab Foundation. She is the former Chair of both the Hospital Board's Quality Committee and Governance Committee, and in 2005, she led the hospital's development of its five-year strategic plan. A strong advocate for the health care industry, Ms. Bailey has held Board and staff positions in national and provincial organizations including COTA Health, the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (now named Accreditation Canada), the Ontario Hospital Association, and the Canadian College of Health Services Executives.
At its Annual General Meeting on Monday, June 23, the Board of Directors also announced the appointment of four new members: Mr. Dennis Darby, President and CEO of the Ontario Pharmacists' Association; Ms. Caroline Pinto, Founding Principal of Counsel Public Affairs Inc.; Ms. Hilary Short, recently retired President and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association; and Mr. David Taylor, Principal of Asset Directions Inc.
St. John's Rehab Hospital thanks the following retiring board members for their many years of dedicated service: Chair Elizabeth Martin, Foundation Board Chair Sarah Agnew, and former Ontario Attorney-General Charles Harnick. Their leadership and energy have contributed invaluably in moving the hospital to the forefront of specialized rehabilitation care.
"When the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine founded St. John's Rehab Hospital, they started a tradition of leadership in rehabilitation," says Ms. Bailey. "It is an honour to lead our skilled and devoted Board of Directors in building on our successes under Elizabeth Martin's leadership, and through new developments that will build on our tradition."
