Dishing up appreciation to celebrate 50 years of dedicated volunteer service

TORONTO, April 21, 2010 - For 50 years, members from the North York community have volunteered to help St. John's Rehab Hospital rebuild people's lives. Now, the hospital is turning the tables as staff volunteer their time to serve a delicious three-course meal to the Auxiliary in celebration of their 50th anniversary.
Each year, St. John's Rehab Hospital Auxiliary volunteers contribute over 14,000 hours of service, offering vital support to our patients and hospital-wide departments. The event is an opportunity for staff members to express their appreciation. The hospital's exceptional volunteer force includes more than 130 dedicated individuals, several of whom have volunteered for more than 30 years.

Over the past 50 years, the Auxiliary has raised a remarkable $1.6 million for the hospital, including a pledge of $750,000 towards a new state-of-the-art therapy pool to be named in their honour. The Auxiliary also organizes several community events to raise money for the hospital and encourage community spirit. These events include the Swing into Summer Concert featuring the Royal York Swing Orchestra on June 2, 2010 and the Gigantic Garage Sale on May 1, 2010.
