Burn Rehabilitation
St.
John's Rehab Hospital offers Ontario's only dedicated burn rehabilitation
program. The hospital provides specialized interdisciplinary services
to address the physical, psychosocial and vocational needs of individuals
with severe burn injuries.
As Canada's leader in burn rehabilitation, St. John's Rehab Hospital is a regional and national centre of excellence on the forefront of delivering inpatient and outpatient treatment, teaching and research.
Hospitals across the province refer patients to the inpatient program and physicians in the community can refer patients directly to the hospital's outpatient program. Auto insurance clients and injured workers covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board are referred to the Back on Track Program. Patients benefit from a seamless continuum of services that ensures they can continue to working toward their rehabilitation goals in a facility that provides the same high standards of care and evidence-based outcomes.
The inpatient and outpatient teams represent a full range of rehabilitation professionals and medical specialists who work with patients and their families to expedite their recovery and return to the workforce or the community. Support groups at the hospital respond to patients' psychological and social needs to encourage developing coping and self-management strategies.
Bi-weekly burn clinics at St. John's Rehab include specialists from the Ross Tilley Burn Centre at Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences Centre and the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre.
Patients can also access fee-for-service care such as massage therapy, acupuncture, chiroporactic and chiropody services to complement their rehabilitation.
