Redevelopment Project Milestones
St. John's Rehab Hospital's dream of a modern, state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre will soon be a reality! Here are some key milestones we've passed in building our future, along with those in the months and years ahead.

2001 - 2005
- 2001: Planning commences for a new outpatient facility.
- 2003: $15 million Rebuilding Lives fundraising campaign begins.
- 2004: Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funds preliminary design development.
2006 - 2007
- April 2006: Ontario government approves funding for redevelopment project. Read the media release...
- July 2006: New facility named The John C. and Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre for Ambulatory Care in honour of the Eatons' $2 million gift. Read the media release...
- October 2006: Rebuilding Lives campaign publicly launched after raising $11.6 million. Read the media release...
- July 2007: Ministry approves functional program for new building.
2008
- May 2008: Ministry approves sketch plan for the new building.
- September 2008: Ministry approval to go to tender for construction contractors for Phase I enabling projects.
- October 2008: Ministry approval to begin Phase I enabling projects. Read the media release...
- December 2008: Start of Phase I enabling projects: construction of new loading dock, west parking lot and site services.
2009
- October 2009: Ministry approval to go to tender for construction contractors for Phases II/III - main redevelopment project.
- September 2009: Successful completion of the $15 million Rebuilding Lives campaign.
- November 2009: Completion of Phase I enabling projects.
2010-2012
- April 2010 : Ministry approval to begin Phases II/III - main redevelopment project.
- April 2010 : Start of Phase II project: construction of ambulatory care centre, east parking lot. Read the media release...
- Fall 2011: Planned opening* of ambulatory care centre.
- Fall 2011: Planned start* of inpatient wing renovations, therapy gardens.
- Summer 2012: Planned completion* of construction.
