Research Projects
Whether it is a new discovery that helps amputee patients manage phantom pain, a new treatment that helps burn patients regain mobility, or a new approach that helps seniors cope with depression, every day, advancements in rehabilitation research can vastly improve people's lives.
St. John's Rehab Hospital has launched a progressive research program to rebuild lives through innovative rehab care. By combining patient care with research, we will evaluate and develop new, beneficial treatments that allow patients to return home sooner and in better health.
Our team is probing many innovative areas in rehabilitation care, including:
- Neuropsychological impacts following an electrical injury
- The benefits of using Nintendo Wii® in outpatient rehabilitation for knee replacement patients
- Testing quality of life in patients with total joint replacements
- Assessing balance with prosthesis following amputation
- Creating a psychological database for the advancement of outpatient burn rehabilitation
- Clinical outcomes of burn survivors in specialty rehabilitation programs
- The role of nutritional supplementation in improving the healing of pressure ulcers
- Patient outcomes of seven-day-a-week rehabilitation
- Clinical outcomes of a self-medication program for patients with cancer
